She will however tell you that she will buy fine mushroom meal (for which she pays 15 coins). This is well worth it because selling a bag of meal in the normal way will only yield 8–11 coins (20% to 28% of 40). He is working in the Lizard pen behind Jen's food shop. He talks about lizards and dragons and advises you to visit Motrax.īernie sells Potions including Energy and Armour Elixirs and Scrolls. ![]() She will tell you that Mayor Evelyn's necklace has been stolen. She will also send you off to Motrax to locate a scroll of history. It turns out that he does not have the scroll but points you further. He will train you in Blademaster and Cave Lore If you manage to complete the task she will teach you a level 3 spell. Will give you a quest to recover her necklace from the Nephilim Fortress to the west. On completion of this mission she will give you a Crown Token, which will give you access to The Castle, a Singing Rapier, around 70 xp and 2 reputation. Avernum 6 is available for 28, and has a large, free demo as well. If you ask him for a drink he will offer you not only ale and wine but also some food. Avernum 6 is the last installment in the unique and extremely fun Avernum series by Spiderweb Software. Initially he says he needs only one, but he actually will take everything you have if. No quest appears for this guy but he never leaves and you can keep giving him bags of meal. He will also give you the quest to bring him some sugar. I noticed that there's a guy in Neon's shop West of Silvar that you can give meal to instead of Neon or the king of the refugees in Almaria. The GIFTS seem to have turned his mind, but he will tell you about them. He will also tell you to ask Lieth in the cave of Motrax about the Orb of Thralni. If you are strong enough, you could find this peron in the depths of the caverns beneath Formello.īy the time you can get the statue to talk, you should already have the information it divulges: "The mayor had her necklace stolen. There are magic fountains to the southeast and magic spiders to the northwest. Oh, and someone said that Motrax knows about a stone key." You work your way up from lowly Food Depot worker to hero as you move from one quest to another, and looking back on how far you've come is very satisfying. If you enter the barracks north of the City Hall you will get the feeling that you are not welcome. ![]() And yet, because of the strength of the writing, the way the story enfolds feels quite natural and exciting. The game makes such a huge point early on about stressing that you joined the army to become a hero and how disappointed you are with your current position that it comes as no surprise to absolutely anyone when you're suddenly called upon to save the realms. The series continues its tradition of fine writing bolstered by a dry sense of humour. Half the fun of the series has always been exploring strange new locales, and too much of where you go in Avernum tends to feel familiar. Oh, dear, is it another mushroom farm and lizard caravan? Ho, hum. If you've played any of the previous games, Avernum's gloomy underground terrain will have lost much of its mysterious appeal, and the game just doesn't feel like it's trying to surprise you anymore. The game looks basically the same since its initial installment, despite some minor graphical changes and improved interface, and it winds up feeling a little stale as a result. While the turn-based combat does give you a chance to plan your strategies, after a while it just feels frustratingly slow and tedious, as does constantly tapping to search your surroundings for items. This final installment was their chance to wow us with something new, and instead Avernum 6 barely tries anything different at all. What's actually disappointing is the lack of evolution the series has displayed. The article is generally positive, though there is some criticism - here's an example of both: Indie site JayIsGames takes a look at Avernum 6. ![]()
